Work at ngmoco has been ramping up fairly hardcore. With the success of our two new games We Rule & Godfinger, the company has been blowin’ up; so many new hires that I don’t even know 1/4 of everyone’s name. Amit and I are gearing up to work on our 2nd game and he’s positioned himself as the lead coordinator, or as the process calls it, the ScrumManager, which I’m totally fine with. I’ve been practicing Ruby (an elegant programming language) a lot lately and brushing slightly with Ruby on Rails (framework atop Ruby for websites) in order to get my chops up to less-than-failure status (I’m so fucking tired of PHP). While I cannot delve into details of the new game, it’s going to blow Epic Pet Wars out of the water… guaranteed.

Moving on… it’s not the weekend yet, but it’s time to post bangers anyway… at 6:45AM.

So there were a few days of downtime for my beloved, 4+ year-old social network Makeshift Online… I FINALLY lost the server that was hosted in Hot or Not’s datacenter cage. I knew it was going to happen sometime, but essentially I had a *secret* dedicated server hosting MSO that I wasn’t paying for and now it has finally been taken offline.

The SysOps guy that looked at the machine was probably like “WTF is this shit?” ::unplug::

Luckily, I setup a system a long-ass time ago to dump the MSO database and all photo resources back to my apartment nightly. I actually have never done a complete restore from scratch, but I’m pleased to say that everything worked out near-perfectly.

And so MSO lives on… as planned. The only thing stopping it now is some catastrophic fire at my apartment (knock on wood) or Comcast catches wind of what’s going on since hosting a server out of a home cable line is definitely against their terms of service.

Epic Pet Wars now has 29 different available versions in the iTunes App Store. That is more SKUs (unique, different versions) than any other single game in existence in the history of the store. WOOT! This was a pretty huge accomplishment for Amit and I. It took a lot of work but in the end, we’re very pleased. Much props to Michelle for throwing down with some significantly more polished and distinctive pets. There are so many more that I enjoy from this series than from the first.
